Poughkeepsie's New Logo Leaves Some Wondering What It Means

Poughkeepsie residents will soon see a new logo -- PKGO -- popping up around the city and attached to special events and might wonder what it means.

It's pretty simple really, PKGO stands for "Poughkeepsie Go!" and is meant to symbolize that the city is a place on the go, with great people and businesses.

"It's a fresh branding start for Poughkeepsie," said Paul Hesse, the city's Community Development coordinator. "It's also a chance for residents and businesses to let people know why they love the city."

Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison touched briefly on the new logo during his recent State of the City address saying it offers a symbol for people to recognize that they are cared about and so is their city.

In addition to simply having a new logo, there is additional meaning behind it. Such as cleaning and improving area parks, upgrading bus services and offering additional Public Works hours and, well, making Poughkeepsie a better place to live.

Hesse said a lot of the time the really good things about a city aren't written or heard about: "Sure, all cities have crime and grit, but there are lots of good things too. That's what PKGO is all about."

And although the new branding hasn't received a big, fancy rollout yet, residents and businesses can let the rest of the world know why they love or live in the "City on the Go" by logging onto the new website www.PoughkeepsieGo.com and telling their story.

There are already a few on the site including a look at the Underwear Factory and all it has to offer and a great story by Tim Massie whose family has lived in Poughkeepsie since the 1800s.

If you love Poughkeepsie or have a great business story, there's plenty of room left for all to tell their stories.
